Chef Carrier will be visiting from Memphis and is the owner and executive chef of The Beauty Shop Restaurant, the Mollie Fontaine Lounge, Bar DKDC and Another Roadside Attraction Catering Services.


From art student to artist, designer to chef to restaurateur, Karen Carriers’ been creating in different mediums for over 25 years. An energetic and vivacious woman, Carrier was born and raised in Memphis.

Carrier has been a personal chef to such Hollywood big shots as Tom Cruise, Francis Ford Coppola, Jim Jarmush and Susan Sarandon. But in Memphis this chef is a bona fide celebrity in her own right. She’s on so many magazine covers, you would think she was promoting her latest blockbuster. As many natives know, the way to Memphis’ heart is through its stomach, and Carriers innovative restaurants and one of a kind cooking is what makes her a star.

The crown jewel in Carrier’s growing group of eateries is the glorious quirky The Beauty Shop Restaurant, which opened in 2002 in the former Atkins Beauty Salon where Priscilla Presley used to get her beehives coiffed. It was included in Gourmet’s Top 100 Restaurants in 2002 and Conde’ Nast Traveler’s Hot Tables of 2003.

Her other restaurants include Bar-DKDC, an international street food venue that travels the world with a changing menu every six weeks, The Mollie FontaineLounge and Noodle Doodle do, her noodle bar, which was listed in 2009 in Bon Appetit’s Hot Ten Best New Asian Noodle Bars in America.

In the 25 years since her return to Memphis, Carrier has received numerous accolades in publications such as Gourmet, The New York Times, Bon Appetit’, Gourmet, Japanese Esquire, Garden and Gun, Southern Living, Food and Wine, CNN, The Memphis Flyer, The Commercial Appeal, The Miami Herald, The Chicago Sun Times, Taste, Turner Network, The Food Network, National Geographic, Northwest in Flight Magazine and Delta in Flight Magazine to name a few.
